Hyuncheol IM
Hyuncheol Im is an accomplished professional in customs operations, policy, and international cooperation. Currently serving as a Customs Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Belgium and the EU, he represents Korea at the World Customs Organization (WCO). His work focuses on strengthening trade security, combating illicit trade, and assisting Korean businesses with EU customs regulations. Dr. Im has held pivotal roles within Korea Customs, including Director of Customs Border Surveillance, where he managed border security and counterterrorism measures in collaboration with international partners. As Head of Gimpo International Airport Customs, he directed airport customs operations and ensured efficient management during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also successfully led initiatives in origin verification and cross-border security with organizations like the U.S. CBP and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office. Fluent in English, Chinese, Indonesian, and Russian, Dr. Im earned his PhD from the University of Seoul, specializing in the EU Passenger Name Record (PNR) system. A published author on EU customs law, he has received recognition for his contributions to customs operations and fostering international collaboration.
